LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) The celebration afterwards told you just how big LCA's 56-36 win over Lexington Catholic was for the Eagles football program.
LCA quarterback Logan Nieves summed it up perfectly after the victory. "The first victory over Catholic in program history man. That's awesome! It's awesome!"
The point production from LCA quarterback Logan Nieves was just as incredible. The senior signal caller was spectacular going 11-16 through the air for 151 yards and a touchdown to go along with 18 carries for 179 yards with three more scores.
"I'm sure that other team's defenses have a hard time stopping a double-threat running backfield with me and Dillon (Wheatley) and not to mention all the four threats we have at receiver," said our Athlete of the Week. "We're deeper than we've ever been this year, so that adds to everything."
Eagles coach Ethan Atchley has no problem bragging on his QB.
"Logan making plays on his own and doing the old-school blue collar things he does. He runs between the tackles, and runs people over, and then at the same time being able to throw screens and get it out in space quickly for a guy to make somebody miss and go."
Nieves is one of the best dual-threat quarterbacks in the state and he has the unique ability to improvise.
"He makes our job easy a lot of times," says Atchley. "Being able to just make plays and kind of go off the script so to speak."
"My ability to scramble and continue the play," said Nieves earlier this week. "My pocket passing needs some work, but that's in the works and it will get better."
For Nieves, it was the best game he's has had in his career at LCA.
"Given the weight on the game, yes. That was the best I've played in a game that huge."
