LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Bryan Station alum Shelvin Mack was hosting his annual basketball skills camp on Wednesday at the high school’s gym. More than two dozen youngsters attended.
“The biggest thing I hope the kids get out of camp is hope,” Mack said. “Actually believing they can do certain things.”
Any proceeds from the camp benefits the Shelvin Mack Foundation.
“I enjoy giving back to the community. Growing up, I had guys help me get where I'm at,” Mack said. “We're that generation now that can give back to the community and help someone to become a better player or a better person in school. I feel like I have the tools and resources to do that.”
Mack recently signed a two-year deal with the Orlando Magic. After spending the past two seasons in Utah, the former Butler guard felt like it was time for a change.
“It's a great opportunity for me to play,” Mack said. “I've been in other situations where I'm behind All-Stars every year and it just doesn't work out basketball wise.”
“It's a great opportunity this year I got a chance to play and show all of my game.”
Mack, who led Butler to back-to-back national championship games, is entering his seventh season in the NBA.
