Video Vault: Minnifield ignored critics, became Browns' Pro Bowler

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Former Henry Clay standout Frank Minnifield was considered by some too small to play college football. So when Kentucky coach Fran Curci didn’t offer a scholarship, Minnifield jumped at the opportunity to play at Louisville.

Minnifield used the snub as motivation. The 5-foot-9 cornerback became an All-Pro safety with the Cleveland Browns, where he and Hanford Dixon created the “Dawg Pound,” a section of seats at Cleveland Stadium.

Today, Minnifield is a successful Lexington businessman and is a driving force behind the Kentucky Pro Football Hall of Fame, the only one of its kind in the country.
