Morehead St. adds Strobel as linebackers coach

MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Andrew Strobel, who has extensive coaching experience on the defensive and special teams' sides of the football, has joined the Morehead State staff.

He will serve as the linebackers coach as well as be the co-special teams coordinator. Strobel will also serve as the defensive recruiting coordinator.

His most recent stop was as the defensive coordinator at Alma (Mich.) College for two seasons. His troops led the nation in all divisions in red zone defense in 2016 and paced the entire Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in forced turnovers (24) in 2016.

Strobel was the special teams coordinator and an assistant coach at Alfred (N.Y.) State College in 2015. He was also a recruiting coach and video coordinator at Alfred and led the defensive backfield players.

In 2014, he was the special teams coordinator at East Stroudsburg (Pa.). He also led the defensive backfield, served as the professional football liaison and was the video coordinator.

From 2010-13, Strobel served as an assistant coach at Culver-Stockton (Mo.). He was the defensive coordinator during the 2013 season, where he helped the team rank in the top 15 nationally in pass defense - the second straight year accomplishing that feat. The 2013 defensive unit boasted the best stats in a six-year span at CS. Culver-Stockton had seven defensive backs receive all-conference recognition during his four seasons.

He was the special teams coordinator and defensive secondary coach in 2010, 2011 and 2012. He also served as CS's head strength and conditioning coach during 2011.

Strobel earned his bachelor's degree in entertainment and sports promotion from Northern Michigan in 2009. Strobel was a four-year member of the football program (2006-09) at Northern Michigan. A three-time member of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Fall All-Academic Team, Strobel was named the program's Freshman of the Year in 2007 and had more than 120 career tackles.

He owns a master's degree from Concordia (Calif.) in athletics administration/coaching, which he obtained in 2013.

Strobel and his wife Carrie have two young children, Payton and Michael.
