LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - When Kentucky takes on Northwestern in the Music City Bowl, they will do so without star linebacker Denzil Ware.
Coach Mark Stoops on Tuesday announced Ware would not be playing in the game due to a violation of team rules. He declined to comment on the nature of the violation.
Ware is second on the team with six and a half sacks. Ware, who is one the so-called 'Blitz Bros,' had his best game of the season against Tennessee when the junior had nine tackles and a sack.
"We still have people here. Josh Pascal and I know he prepared himself, he has his mind mentally ready. I feel like it’s going to be crazy, but I feel like Josh can do the job," said junior linebacker Josh Allen. "Plus we have other guys, Boogie and Kengera, so I feel like we’re all going to be good. It’s not going to be a big drop."
Ware did not practice with the team on Tuesday at Vanderbilt where the Wildcats encountered sub-freezing temperatures. Stoops said his team was in good spirits and that the positive energy translated to another good practice.
"It’s been a very good preparation so far," the coach said. "Good energy. The guys of have been very focused. They’ve been able to separate between having a good time and enjoying themselves here."
The last time Kentucky played in Nashville, the Cats walloped Vandy 44-21.
