BRENTWOOD, Tn. – Two Eastern Kentucky University football players earned weekly awards after the Colonels earned their second straight victory, a 26-13 win at Murray State University on Saturday.
Senior quarterback Tim Boyle was chosen as the adidas® Ohio Valley Conference Co-Newcomer of the Week the league office announced on Sunday. Sophomore running back Daryl McCleskey Jr. was selected as the Madness Ohio Valley Offensive Player of the Week by College Sports Madness for the second straight week.
Boyle completed 60 percent of his passes and threw two touchdown passes. The 6-foot-4, 233-pound Middlefield, Connecticut native finished 15-for-25 for 201 yards. He gave EKU a 6-0 lead with a 22-yard scoring toss on third down in the first quarter. He put his team on top 20-3 with a 38-yard touchdown pass late in the second quarter.
McCleskey rushed for a career-high 144 yards on 21 carries. The 5-foot-9, 186-pound Dayton, Ohio native averaged 6.9 yards per carry. His 72-yard run in the first quarter was the longest rush by an EKU player since 2015. He is the first Colonel to rush for 100 yards in back-to-back games since 2014.
Eastern Kentucky plays at Eastern Illinois on Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET.
