UK offense returns to fundamentals preparing for EKU

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - UK coach Mark Stoops used the word "operation" in referring to his offense in Saturday's season opening win over Southern Miss. Offensive coordinator Eddie Gran used it again Tuesday when talking about how his unit could have played better.

"Get up, get down, get set, make the calls and let’s go,” said Gran. "Too much talking, there's going to be times we don't have the perfect play. Lets just get on a body and lets go. But that;s going to come with time. That's gonig to come with those guys working together, us getting a nice jell with the guys that need to be in there."

The Cats finished with just 254 total yards in the 24-17 win while Southern Miss cranked out 364. Gran believes there will be a lot of improvement in game two against Eastern Kentucky Saturday.

"Usually from game one to game two it gets better. It really came down to fundamentals. We’ve got to get better. That’s what we worked on today, had a really good practice and can’t wait to get back to Saturday, especially in front of our home crowd.”

The Cats and the Colonels tee it up at noon Saturday in a game that will be televised by the SEC Network.
