Video Vault - UK guard Hedges competes for spot on Olympic team

Former guard Patty Jo Hedges still ranks No. 1 all-time at UK in assists with 731, and is No. 20 on the all-time scoring list.

Following her career with the Wildcats, Hedges led the U.S. Pan American team to a gold medal in Caracas, Venezuela in 1983.

The following spring, Hedges was invited to participate in the Team USA basketball tryouts in Colorado Springs. Coach Pat Summitt pared her team down to 17 following the Trials, keeping Hedges as one of four guards.

But Hedges was cut when the roster was trimmed to 12, ending her hope of playing for the U.S. team that won the gold medal in Los Angeles in the 1984 Olympics.
