P.J. Washington leads USA over Italy 98-65

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - UK freshman P.J. Washington scored 20 points and pulled down four rebounds as the USA whipped Italy Tuesday in the U19 FIBA World Cup in Egypt. The US team finished pool play 3-0 in Group D.

Italy was able to wipe out an early 10-0 deficit to go up 15-13 but Washington then took charge igniting a 12-3 run. The USA led 53-39 and extended that lead in the third quarter.

Washington finished with his best game in the tournament scoring 20 points on 8-9 from the field. He also pulled down 4 rebounds and came up with two steals.

Kentucky's Hamidou Diallo had a frustrating day with a lot of shots going in and out. He finished with five points, four boards and three assists.

The United States advances to play Mali in the Round of 16 Wednesday.
