2 lb lean ground beef
1 lb bulk sausage (either Italian or country sausage will work)
2 eggs
1 cup pizza sauce
1 cup dry bread crumbs
1 medium onion, chopped fine
2 cloves garlic, minced
½ tsp each, salt and pepper
½ lb deli ham, thinly sliced
2 cups mozzarella cheese, shredded, divided


In a large bowl, combine the meats, eggs, ¾ cup pizza sauce, bread crumbs, onion, garlic, and salt and pepper. Mix well. On waxed paper or parchment paper, pat the meat mixture into a 12x10 inch rectangle. Layer the ham and 1 ½ cups cheese over the meat to within 1 inch of the edges. Using the paper, to roll the meat up jelly roll style starting on a short side. Seal seam and ends. Place, seam side down, in a 9x13 inch baking dish which has been sprayed with cooking oil spray. Brush with remaining pizza sauce. Bake, uncovered, in a 375 deg oven about 1 hour. Sprinkle with remaining cheese and bake and addition 10 to 15 minutes or until cheese is melted. Use two large spatulas to move the meat loaf to a serving dish.
