The secret to Hardee’s famous Made from Scratch buttermilk biscuits is, well… a secret! Though Hardee’s can’t tell you exactly how to make and bake them like they do (but you’ll get a glimpse watching Chef Walter’s baking segment with Hardee’s Biscuit Baker Regional Champion, Cassandra Harris), here’s a biscuit recipe that will get you close.
Ingredients:
4 cups self-rising flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 tablespoon sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
2/3 cup shortening
2 cups buttermilk
1/3 cup water
Directions
1)Mix flour, baking powder, sugar, salt, and shortening into fine crumbs.
2)Add in the buttermilk and water until mixture is light.
3)Place dough onto a well-floured surface.
4)Press out the dough and then fold in three times, alternating directions each time.
5)Roll out dough 1 inch thick.
6)Cut and place onto a greased baking sheet.
7)Bake at 425 degrees for 10-15 minutes or until golden brown.
8)Take biscuits out of the oven and immediately brush the tops with melted butter.
9)Let them rest for a couple minutes, then enjoy!
