Good Question: Does Eminem's new song glorify domestic violence?

In Kentucky domestic violence is real and happens every day.

Experts say that one in three Kentuckians will be victimized by an intimate partner at some point.

A new song sitting atop the Billboard Hot 100 has some worried its message centered around domestic violence only adds to the fear.

Good Question: Does Eminem's new song glorify domestic violence?

It's a popular song by two popular artists, but the message behind "Love the Way You Lie" is dark and violent.

The video portrays an abusive relationship that ultimately ends in tragedy.

Both Eminem and Rihanna admit to once being in abusive relationships.

Psychologists warn the video makes domestic violence look acceptable.

We showed the video to Darlene Thomas, Executive Director of the Bluegrass Domestic Violence Program.

"My gut reaction is that it does somewhat glorify it, but it also very much simplifies it. These relationships are much more complex," said Thomas.

Thomas works with victims everyday trying to break the cycle of violence.

She says videos like the one for this song makes it that much harder.

"That's the real threat here with this video there is a real threat to kill her about burning somebody," said Thomas.

Thomas says victims often know they need to leave, but fear what would happen.

A video like this one, she says can often make it hard for them to take that first step.

While this song and the message it sends may be getting a bad wrap, Thomas says there is some good that can come out of it.

"It gives us the opportunities to have a dialog maybe we need to have a dialog with young people about what this really means and looks like, it is acceptable behavior."
