Good Question:When is the signal going to be updated for the digital box?

It's a question many of you have been waiting to hear the answer to.

Since the government-mandated a switch to all digital t-v, some viewers had trouble seeing WKYT.

Now, the answer is just days away.

Good Question: Buddy in Richmond: When is the signal going to be updated for the digital box?. We can't watch in Richmond.

For the last several weeks a lot of work and hard hats could be seen here at WKYT.

The work is in an effort to make sure all of our viewers are able to watch us clearly everyday.

"We've been making changes bringing in a new transmitter, a new antenna, new transmission line to be able to make the conversion from a VHF channel to a UHF channel," said Mike Kanarek, VP of Operations for WKYT.

When WKYT made the switch to digital last June the FCC assigned us a VHF signal and that created some problems.

"We discovered last summer that some of our viewers were having difficulty picking up our VHF channel because VHF digital channels are much more susceptible to interference than UHF channels," said Kanarek.

Last fall the station asked for a move to a UHF channel, that request was granted earlier this year.

It took several months to get all the new equipment ordered and specially built, but its been full steam ahead around our tower for the last few weeks.

The station is now ready to flip the switch for viewers at one pm on September first.

"We're in the final stages of that right now where the new antennae has been installed, the transmitter been tested and over the next several days we'll be testing the signal through the transmitter," said Kanarek.

If you watch over the air you will need to re-scan your converter box to find the new channel, those with cable or satellite won't have to worry about it, their provider will do it for them.

If you are still having trouble come next Wednesday we will have a phone bank set up in the studio to help answer your questions.

On September first, you can call 1-800-500-1513 from 1 to 9 p.m.
