Good Question: What is the proposed design to Hisle Farm?

We receive all sorts of emails to our Good Question inbox.

Many of you will see stories here on NewsFirst and want an update to them, that's just the case with a story we first brought you in the summer of 2008 about a park in Lexington.

Good Question: Charles in Lexington writes: Has Parks and Rec here in Lexington developed a plan for the Hisle Farm on Briar Hill Road?

280 acres make up Hisle Farm in northeastern Fayette County.

When given to the city in 1989 it was one of the largest private donations ever.

The land's intended use, open space and recreation for the city.

"Its really cool the way it is, its just natural," said Julia Householder.

In 2008, Householder's father leased land for horses at Hisle Farm.

She'll be glad to know that's how the city intends for it to stay, reflecting its historic farm heritage while becoming a horse friendly park.

In 2009 a master plan was set forth for development.

The plan calls for a place where equestrian, pedestrian and outdoor learning experiences are all possible.

For the outdoor enthusiast Hisle Farm should have it all when complete.

The park will have ten miles of trails, fishing piers, an orchard, habitats for wildlife observation, a scout camping area even a pavilion is being planned for the site.

The work at the park is expected to be an ongoing process over the next several years.

Folks like Julia Householder think the sky is the limit for Hisle Farm!

"Have field trips for schools, hayrides for schools, especially inner city kids who have never seen a horse, " said Householder.

The park renovation will be done in four phases, the first will come at an estimated cost of just over three million dollars.
