Good Question-Reply All: Summer Myths

The official start of summer is June 21st, but with heat we've been experiencing its sure feels like it now.

That means trips to the pool and sun exposure.

Good Question-Reply All: Summer Myths

The heat is on in the Bluegrass and that has many seeking relief at the pool.

We went to see a Nurse Practitioner at the Little Clinic inside the Kroger at Tates Creek Center to get some answers.

Do you really have to wait 30 minutes before going swimming if you have just eaten?

"That is a myth, of course if you've eaten a huge big meal you might not want to swim across the lake, but you can certainly get in the pool and do normal water activities after you have eaten," said Bridget Adams, Nurse Practitioner.

When the sun is beating down many of us just want to be inside the comfort of an air conditioned building.

Can going in and out of air conditioned buildings make you sick?

Adams says that's not true.

"No, change of temperature from going from hot to cold that's not going to predispose you to a cold or bacterial infection."

The sun, its something we are warned of because of its damage to our skin.

Skin cancer is a very real danger.

Does the sun the really give you freckles?

According to Adams, "the sun causes sun damage, but the sun doesn't cause freckles. Of course when you are out in the sun you do want to wear sunscreen, wear a hat if you are out from 10 to 2 that's the most likely time to get a sunburn."
