Good Question-Why is Severe Weather Awareness so important as we go into the month of March?

Strong storms Monday left a lot of people today cleaning up what mother nature left behind in her wake.

Good Question-Why is Severe Weather Awareness so important as we go into the month of March?

What a difference a day makes, Monday people were taking cover as storms rolled through parts of the bluegrass.

Tuesday a much calmer and sunnier day.

March certainly came in like a lamb, meaning if you believe weather lore it will go out like a roaring lion.

The lion and the lamb prediction is based on English proverb.

The Farmers Almanac says it tends to be more rhyme than true weather predictor.

The Farmers Almanac lays out their predictions every year and the month of March is quite interesting.

They say the skies will be clearing here in the first week.

Then mid month will see some stormy weather and what do you know?

The Farmers Almanac says the end of March in their books calls for a stormy end, maybe roaring out like a lion.

March is Severe Weather Awareness Month.

The National Weather Service says since 1953 Kentucky has averaged about 12 tornadoes a year, the prime months include April may and June.

Storms can hit any time of day, but the most usual time for a tornado to hit is between 3 pm and 9 pm.

Being prepared is key.

"You need to have one of these NOAA Weather Radios because they can be particularly affective at night. That is usually when people are asleep. Just like what we had when the tornado hit Henry county on Monday. Folks were asleep, they didn't know the storm was coming and we had injuries as a result. So it's the best way you can protect yourself," said Chief Meteorologist TG Shuck.

The statewide annual tornado drill will take place the morning of March 8th at 10:07.
