Good Question: When can Kentucky American customers expect their refund?

When Kentucky American Water Company asked for a rate increase last year customers saw their bills increase roughly nine dollars, but then word they were charging too much and that meant a refund.

Good Question: Diane,Lexington-Several weeks ago there was a mention of a refund check from Kentucky American Water, when can customers expect to get those checks?

A $164 million water treatment plant and pipeline built to combat a water supply shortfall set off a rate increase for Kentucky American Water customers.

Last year Kentucky American asked for a rate increase from the Public Service Commission of 38%, by law the company could start charging extra even before the rate was approved.

"They were unable to reach a decision by the end of period of time by which usually an order would be received," said Susan Lancho a KAW spokesperson.

Three months later the PSC said no go and only allowed a 29% increase.

By the time the request was denied customers had already been shelling out more for their H2O, but Kentucky American Water promised a refund plus interest.

By now you should start seeing that refund show up on your bill in the form of a credit no a check.

When you receive your bill look for something that reads " ADJ of 9-29-10 to 12-13-10"

Customers can expect about a $6 credit.

Kentucky American says anyone that is no longer a customer, but was during the rate increase should expect their refund in the form of a check.
