In the new year many people are looking to shed some unwanted weight.
There's always hitting the gym and dieting.
In fact, Americans spend over 40 billion dollars a year on dieting and dieting products, but what if you could sniff out a different way to help you?
Good Question: How can my nose help me lose weight?
Some choose to hit the gym to burn off their fat, others change their eating habits and then there's the unusual.
You know your sense of smell is pretty important when it comes to enjoying food, but did you also know it can be a powerful weight loss tool?
Chicago researchers found smelling food can trick your brain into thinking you've eaten, even when you haven't.
One study found people who inhaled the smell of peppermint every two hours ate 2700 fewer calories per week than they normally did.
All that sniffing adds up to a loss of over three pounds in a month.
Peppermint isn't the only scent to do the trick, bananas, green apples and vanilla also worked in other studies.
Researchers say the more often people in the study sniffed, the more weight they lost.
Their advice keep some vanilla scented candles handy and leave a bowl of apples and bananas on the counter or your desk at work.
