Good Question: How is Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords doing and what is her rehabilitation like?

In January Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords was shot at close range in the head while greeting people in the parking lot of a Tucson, Arizona grocery store.

She suffered a brain injury and since then doctors have called her progress quite remarkable.

Good Question-Calvin, Corbin: How is Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords doing and what is her rehabilitation like?

Since January Gabrielle Giffords has undergone significant rehabilitation after surviving a gunshot to the head resulting in a significant brain injury.

By all accounts its going well.

Doctors at her rehabilitation hospital in Houston say she has made gains in memory, personality, movement, she no longer needs a tracheotomy and her speech has improved.

Dan Hudson, the program manager for the Brain Injury Unit at cardinal hill in Lexington says the fact that she recently traveled to Florida is a good sign of progress.

"Its definitely and indicator that progress is being made so she's becoming more medically stable, meaning she can travel, we are talking about therapy but with a brain injury there is a lot of medical management that goes along with that," said Hudson.

Patients with brain injuries often times have to learn the simplest of tasks all over again.

"She is definitely going through some intensive therapy at least three hours a day at least five days a week," said Hudson.

Randall Noble is a brain injury patient at Cardinal Hill, he fell and severely injured his head.

Noble is now working on many of the same things Giffords is doing including occupational, physical and speech therapy.

" All the therapies work together as a team," said Hudson.

Noble's rehab includes exercises that help him with stability and balance for walking, even getting in the kitchen and re-learning how to cook and read labels.

Progress that will hopefully help him make the same recovery that doctors say Congresswoman Giffords is on track to do.

Just last month Giffords traveled to Florida to see her husband's space shuttle launch that has since been delayed.
