With so many foods to choose from the temptation to over indulge is one of the biggest diet pitfalls.
Dietitians say some of our favorites in a Thanksgiving meal can have some real calorie consequences.
The worst offenders per serving on the table can include:
Candied sweet potatoes-450 calories
Green Bean Casserole-240
Pumpkin pie, a Thanksgiving staple actually comes in at only 340 calories a slice.
If you had just one serving of all the worst items your meal would consist of 2,653 calories.
So how do we avoid over eating?
"Always have a sensible breakfast, it breaks the fast from the night before and it gets you going for the day," says Maria Boosalis, a dietitian.
Boosalis also says filling your plates with color like fruits and vegetables adds nutritional value and she also recommends using a smaller plate for portion control.
Nutritionists also say watch what you drink, sweetened beverages, even alcoholic drinks can really pack on the calories.
