Good Question: How much water should I be drinking daily?

When the sun is beating down a cool drink of water can be refreshing, its also essential to our bodies everyday health.

"Typically in the past what we have used as a guide is we've always said to drink eight 8oz glasses of water a day," said Daniel Stinnett a registered dietitian with Baptist Works in Lexington.

Stinnett says you also have to monitor your physical activity.

He says your body will give you a sensation that should trigger you need more hydration.

"It's a fine balance again you can spiral out of control especially in the summer with high temperatures and humidity. Some people perspire more than others, I would try to get a jump on it and to front load with before the activity."

Some symptoms of dehydration include:
thirst
dry mouth
sweating stops
muscle cramps
nausea
vomiting
decreased urination.

What about all those sports drinks are they better when it comes to keeping you hydrated?

"The sports drinks are good because they are fortified with electrolytes."

There is however, a hidden danger in sports drinks that go right to your waistline.

"The thing to be concerned, about the amount of calories are excessive amount can cause weight gain and the obesity issue."

Stinnett recommends using four ounces of water mixed with 100% fruit juice, he says that will give you the same electrolytes and less calories.
