In 2010 there were 315 million cell phones sold worldwide and that means there are that many old phones being discarded or left in drawers at home.

Cell phones, they are a staple of our everyday life.

We use them to stay in contact with others, but also for work and to do so much more.

Just when you get used to one, a new faster version comes out and you are left with your old has been model, but what to do with it?

The Environmental Protection Agency says last year 125 million old phones were discarded resulting in 65,000 tons of waste that could end up in the landfill and that's not good.

Just a quick search online pulls up dozens of ways to discard your phone.

Places like Bluegrass Pride provide a list of locations that will take them your community.

Places that will either recycle them or donate them to charities such as domestic violence program.

In Lexington you can drop off old phones at the LFUCG Electronic Center at 1306 Versailles Road Monday through Saturday.

At the center, the phones are dismantled and the parts recycled.

Stores like Verizon will take your old phones, they can either recycle them or donate them to programs who need them.
