The holiday shopping season is in full swing.
Are you still wondering what to buy the people on your list?
Good Question: What items are worth splurging on and which should I save on?
The malls are decked, sale signs are hung and the hunt is on for the season's hottest gifts.
Shoppers say they'll likely spend just under $700 this year.
When buying on a budget, how do you balance a long shopping list and smart spending?
By deciding up front where you're going to splurge, and where you're going to save will help.
Electronics may be worth a splurge.
"The iPad is the gift of the season," says Natali Morris, the Senior Editor for CNET.
The Apple tablet computer, along with laptops and e-Readers are the most requested gadgets of the season, according to the Consumer Electronics Association.
These items don't come cheap, you can't buy and iPad for less that $500, while popular e-Readers start at $140.
And though retailers will offer discounts on some of these products, don't expect prices to fluctuate much.
"Its not like something is going to be $200 here and $100 there," said Morris.
Toy stores offer bargain shoppers big value.
Popular gifts like 18 inch dolls for girls and trains for boys can be had for $50.
"No matter what your budget is, you can be trying to spend under ten dollars, under 20, under 50 or 100, you're going to find a great toy for the child on your list," said Adrienne Giordano with Toys R Us.
Still can't decide where to save and where to splurge?
Go with a gift card- 57% of adults say they would like to receive one this year.
Avoid bank issued gift cards which tend to carry high fees and expiration dates.
Cards from specific retailers are a better deal.
