A new study has identified the latest workplace hazard, and it may be sitting a few feet from your desk.

Researchers say laser printers can release tiny particles into the air that can be harmful for you to breathe.

Researchers in Australia put 62 printers to the test and found some release particles of toner-like material that can irritate the lungs. Of those analyzed, 37 had no particle emissions at all. On the flip side, 17 chalked up high emissions. The worst released as many particles as a lit cigarette.

In fact, most of the printers on the worst list were made by Hewlitt Packard, but the study was skewed because more HPs were tested than any other brand.

Pulmonologist Javier Perez Fernandez says put your printer in a well-ventilated area and keep it away from where you sit.

Hewlitt Packard says it is currently reviewing the study and that all its products undergo vigorous testing for material emissions.

11 of 12 listed are HP's. Hmmm...where is the rest of the list? Was the study biased? Based on the partial list shown above, I'd think so. But ya know, this is all a mott point because in a few years just breathing is going to be hazardous to ones health. I know of better things to do research on than how bad the particle emisions are on a bunch of printers.
