The Lexington-Fayette County Health Department will once again feature Free Flu Friday, a special one-day clinic designed to give up to 2,000 shots to Lexington residents. The event will be held 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14, at the LFCHD’s Public Health North Campus, 805 Newtown Circle.
In addition to seasonal flu, this year’s vaccine will also provide protection against H1N1. Flu shots are recommended for everyone six months of age and older.
Those who are unable to attend Free Flu Friday can still get a flu shot at the Public Health Clinic North (805A Newtown Circle). No appointment is necessary. Flu shots cost $25, and Medicaid, Medicare B, cash, checks, credit cards and some insurances are accepted.
The Public Health Clinic North is open 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Thursday; 8 a.m.-7 p.m. Tuesday; and 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday.
Last year, Lexington had 305 confirmed cases of the flu, and the health department provided more than 5,500 flu shots. The flu season traditionally begins in October and hits its peak in January/February in Kentucky.
