Free HIV tests are being offered at several locations in Kentucky during the next week.
The Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services says routine
testing and HIV prevention efforts can prevent transmission of HIV, the virus that causes AIDS. But the cabinet says the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that 20 percent of people with HIV don't know they're infected.
Testing events are planned at several locations, starting Monday. For more information, contact Dennis Wheatley in the HIV/AIDS Branch at (502) 564-6539, ext. 3559, or the Northern Kentucky Health Department at (859) 341-4264. The CDC also offers a website that will find a nearby testing site at http://www.hivtest.org .
