Traffic was backed up for miles along I-75 in Madison and Rockcastle counties Thursday morning following a big rig accident.

Police say a UPS truck crashed in the northbound lanes at mile marker 65 just before 10:00 a.m. Witnessess say it appeared the driver turned left for an unknown reason and just kept turning left. The rig flipped several times before coming to rest in the median with the cab stuck underneath the trailer.

It took nearly two hours to extricate the driver but surprisingly he suffered only minor injuries.

The driver of the truck was identified as Robert Taylor of Knoxville, TN. He was airlifted to the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville.

No word on what might have caused Thomas to lose control of his truck.
