Keeneland Yearling Sale Fails To Top '06 Records

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - Final figures at Keeneland's September Yearling Sale were almost four percent below last year's record of nearly $400 million. The average price per horse fell almost ten percent as the 15-day event wound to a close yesterday.

Gross sales were more than $385 million, making the 2007 sale the second-highest grossing of Keeneland's September sales.

The average was approximately $101 thousand down from the 2006 record of more than $112 thousand.

The number of horses sold set a record with 3,799 yearlings, compared with last year's 3,556.

Keeneland sold 172 horses today for just over nine thousand dollars.
