A southern Kentucky girl, injured by a van that hit her and took off, was released from the hospital Thursday morning.
A van hit 12-year-old Meghan Roehrich as she was crossing the road to go to her grandmother's house in Corbin July 26.
Police say 43-year-old Michael Petrey hit her, then left the scene. He was arrested shortly after.
After spending time at both UK Hospital and Cardinal Hill, Roehrich headed back home Thursday.
Meghan suffered both leg and head injuries. Her parents say she's been brave throughout the entire time.
"I really believe that everything happens for a reason, and it's all part of a big plan, and that if this whole scenario is part of something in the future, I think it's worth it and I'll just take it. Try to make the best of it," Meghan said.
Last week, Petrey withdrew his guilty pleas for driving without a license, leaving the scene of an accident, and having no insurance.
He's also charged with assault. The family did not comment about the case. They did thank the hospital staff for all of their help, and the community for their support.
Meghan Roehrich said she hopes to be recovered in time for softball season.
