Updated: Sun 11:30 PM, Sep 30, 2007

CAMPTON, KY -- Kentucky State Police are investigating an apparent exchange of gunfire where both the alleged perpetrator and a victim were seriously injured.

Police say the incident happened last night in the Gilmore community of Wolfe County near Campton.

A KSP Trooper responded to a reported shooting incident at 510 Straight Creek Road in Gillmore around 9:20 p.m. and found Aaron Whisman suffering from a gunshot wound to the back. Shortly after, the KSP found the alleged perpetrator -- Steven Drake -- on VanCleve Road after he called the Wolfe County Dispatch and told them he needed medical attention for a gunshot wound. He told them he received the wound in an altercation with Whisman.

Drake was treated for a hand injury at the Kentucky River Medical Center in Jackson and released. Whisman was transported to the University of Kentucky Medical Center. A medical center spokesperson said Whisman is listed in fair condition.

Police say no arrests have been made in the case and the incident remains under investigation by KSP Detective David Owen.
