Crews Keep Close Eye On Leaning Water Tower

A busy Eastern Kentucky road is shut down as a leaning water tower
looms above it. Officials say it's not a matter of if the tower in Jackson County will come down, but when.

The water tower has only been up for two-weeks, but on Sunday morning an official noticed the tower was leaning 30-feet from it's original position.

The teetering tower caused crews to evacuate one home-owner and shut down a section of Highway 421 in case the tower fell onto the busy roadway.

The water tower sits on top of an abandon mine shaft which is caving in.

If it doesn't fall on it's own crews say they will be forced to tear it down.

Highway 421 will remain closed until the problem is fixed.
