The massive fire started around 10 last night in the now abandoned building at Broadway and College Avenue in the downtown district of Jackson.

A witness says she saw someone running from the building earlier in the evening and firefighters say they suspect arson.

The fire was reported around 10 last night but it took well into the morning hours before it was under control. The fire chief says it was suspicious. He says it points to arson, because he himself went in last week to disconnect the power.

One firefighter was sent to the hospital, but for a non-fire related injury. He has since been released.

While the building is still standing, it will likely have to be demolished.

We're told the building was empty, but housed numerous businesses and apartments over the years.

Residents say there was talk of renovating it.
