LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - A civil trial regarding Allstate Insurance Co.'s procedures for handling claims is scheduled to start in Fayette County Circuit Court today.

Geneva Hager, of Richmond, is seeking more than one (b) billion dollars in damages in a civil lawsuit. She claims the company's procedures for handling claims violates state law.

Allstate, which is based in Northbrook, Illinois, denies the allegations.

Hager's attorneys claim the insurance giant used various tactics to get people who file claims to accept unfair settlements. The lawsuit claims Allstate's procedures violate the state's Unfair Claims Settlement Practices Act.

Company spokesman Mike Siemienas says Allstate handled Hager's claim appropriately.

The damages being sought include four-hundred-75 (m) million dollars for compensatory damages and nine-hundred-50 (m) million dollars for punitive damages.

Hager was involved in 1997 crash in which a vehicle insured by Allstate rear-ended the vehicle she was in. Hager suffered neck and back injuries in the crash.
