Woman slightly hurt when thieves go after her purse

Updated: Fri 8:50 PM, Aug 27, 2010

Wanda Wilson was leaving the Irvine Save-A-Lot when two people in a car next to her went after her purse, which was hanging around her arm.

“They pulled up beside of her, grabbed her purse, it was on her shoulder, took off dragging her down to the ground,” said Estill County Deputy Sheriff Carl Rifenbark.

Police say the 81-year-old woman was dragged for a short distance, with her purse still attached to her arm. The car got away and police were called about a woman laying in the parking lot.

“She had minor injuries to her arm, her legs and her stomach,” said Rifenbark.

Police say they don’t have any real leads in this case, but they are investigating to see if a recent arrest of some robbery suspects in Georgetown could be related to this crime.

“They were driving a similar car to the one that robbed Mrs. Wilson, we are checking into that as well,” said Rifenbark.
