Navy SEAL from Morehead returns home to final resting place

Chief Petty Officer Collin Thomas made his final trip home Friday. Among the dozens gathered to take him to his final resting place were family, friends, fellow Navy SEALs and more than 60 veterans.

"This is the type of respect and honor that every veteran should be paid," says Patriot Guard leader Steve Verrigni.

He and other riders escorted Thomas's casket from the airport to the funeral home.

"Being a Vietnam veteran I came home, my brothers come home and there was nobody to do this. And that's tragic. That's a tragic chapter in America's past and I think that Americans seek closure by doing this."

Although Verrigni didn't serve with Thomas, he stills feels like the naval officer who was in his 13th year of service, was a brother.

"There's a very very unique bond no matter what branch of service you were. No matter how young or old you are."

Thomas died while serving in Afghanistan. He had fought both there and in Iraq.
