Police investigating after man shot in stomach
Police are following up on clues in an overnight shooting that sent a man to the hospital.
We're told that the man answered a knock at the door at his Laketower Drive apartment, and ended up getting shot.
Police tell us that the victim, Fransisco Sandoval, was shot more than once outside his apartment.
He was taken to UK Hospital to be treated for his injuries.
Lexington Police were called to the Sonnet Cove apartments on Laketower Drive just after 10:00 Thursday night.
They found a tenant had been shot multiple times. People living in neighboring units say they heard the commotion.
"There were a number of gunshots, approximately four," says Emma Theden, who lives in a neighboring apartment unit.
The victim, Fransisco Sandoval, was able to tell police at the scene that somebody knocked on a window or door, and when he went to answer, he was shot in the stomach. He was then taken to UK hospital.
People who live in the apartments say they're concerned about how safe the complex is, especially in the dark.
"We have lights as you can see, above here, but they've been turned off for about the past year and I'm going to go talk to management now about getting them turned back on," Theden says.
27 NEWSFIRST tried to contact the property manager at Sonnet Cove Apartments to ask about the lighting issue, but our calls have not been returned.
As for Sandoval UK Hospital, he is listed in critical condition as of Friday afternoon.
She hopes that fixing a small problem could help prevent bigger ones like what happened to her neighbor.
"If you've got a good light on, there's a lot better chance that someone's going to go, 'well someone might see me,'" Theden says.
Witnesses say two men were seen leaving the area just after the shooting in a silver Nissan Altima.
Police have not named any suspects yet in the shooting.
