Six people, including young children, are flown to the hospital after a violent head-on crash.
It happened around 10:30 this morning on U.S. 25 in Corbin. Investigators say nearly all of the victims are members of a family in a car that collided with a pickup truck.
Bystanders and emergency workers got the kids out of the car, but both vehicles had to be cut apart to get the adults out. Investigators say everyone was alert and talking.
Michelle Siler, who lives nearby was the person who called 911. Siler says today's wreck was the worst she's seen mainly because children were involved.
Residents and authorities say wrecks are not uncommon on this stretch of roadway. They say drivers tend to go too fast as they head into an intersection a little bit further down the road in town. That intersection is sometimes referred to as Malfunction Junction. It's where 25 and the Cumberland Gap Parkway intersect.
At this point, the names and conditions of those involved in the wreck are unknown. Two adults and 3 children in the wreck are being treated at UK Hospital and another victim is being treated at the University of Tennessee Hopsital. Authorities have yet to determine whether or not the occupants of the vehicles were wearing seat belts or if either driver was intoxicated.
