Firefighters say they look like toys, and they cause many injuries every year.
So now, the Lexington Fire Department is joining other agencies around the country in warning people about novelty lighters.
"You can see the size of the problem by just visiting Ebay. There are literally hundreds of lighters disguised as toy animals, cell phones, key rings, balls and other colorful items that are attractive to children. The problem is, whether the novelty lighters come from Ebay or a local store, kids are being injured by these unsafe products. We can greatly reduce these types of injuries," Lexington Fire Chief Robert Hendricks said in a news release.
Lexington firefighters are asking people not to buy novelty lighters or keep them at home.
They say you should always keep any lighter away from children, especially if it looks like a toy.
