UPS pilot killed in crash remembered as family man

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - The pilot of a UPS plane that crashed
near Dubai is being remembered as a family man who encouraged
others.
Doug Lampe was one of two crew members killed Friday when the
cargo plane went down. Investigators recovered the flight data
recorder Tuesday as experts seek the cause of the crash.
Kurt Sauder, a minister at Southeast Christian Church in
Louisville, told The Courier-Journal that he's known Lampe for 10
years and says he "always had a smile on his face" and "always
had a word of encouragement."
The newspaper reports that the 48-year-old Lampe was promoted to
captain about five years ago, which required more travel, so he
scaled back on leisure activities to spend more time with his wife,
Cindy, and his two young children.
