CLAYHOLE, Ky. (AP) - A plan to harvest trees in the name of scientific research in an eastern Kentucky forest is drawing criticism.
The Lexington Herald-Leader reports that a thousand acres of trees will be cut in the University-of-Kentucky-owned Robinson Forest in eastern Kentucky.
UK forest hydrologist Chris Barton says the project will produce results that can be applied on private logging jobs throughout Appalachian Kentucky and beyond. Barton is a lead scientist on the project.
But the experiment has drawn criticism from college students, environmental groups, U.S. Representative Ben Chandler, and a former UK trustee who gave $2 million for a university research and educational center.
