Lexington Church Burglarized Twice In 24 Hours

It's a place where many people gather to worship every weekend.

But a Lexington church is also a crime scene, after thieves strike not once, but twice in 24 hours.

It happened this weekend at Saint Peter Claver Catholic Church on Jefferson Street.

Officials say vandals broke into a garage next to the church early Saturday, stealing a lawnmower and other yard equipment.

Then early Sunday, officials say the church itself was broken into, with the thieves taking computers and other office equipment. The church's sanctuary was also damaged.

Officials say the thieves stole thousands of dollars worth of items in all.

So far, no arrests have been made.

The church now plans to install a security system, something officials say they've never had to do before.
