One of this year's Kentucky Derby horses is being prepared for surgery, after a serious injury at Keeneland.
Teuflesberg suffered fractures near two of his ankles Saturday during the Phoenix Handicap.
The horse is now at Lexington's Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital, where he'll be operated on later this week.
Surgeons say if they can repair the damage in his legs, the horse should be OK.
"This is a career ending injury," Equine Orthopedic Surgeon Larry Bramlage said. "But if you stabilize the ankle, there have been many, many horses, stallions, brood mares alike that serve long careers in the breeding shed."
Two other horses were also injured at Keeneland Saturday, but both had to be put down.
