Copper Theft Causes Power Outage

A power outage caused trouble along one of Lexington's busiest road. Now, investigators say a copper thief may be to blame.

The power went out on Nicholasville Road just before five Wednesday morning. The outage stretched between Rojay Drive and northern Jessamine County.

Traffic lights were out, and power was lost to nearly 5,000 Kentucky Utilities customers.

KU Officials tell 27 NEWSFIRST someone tried to steal copper from the substation that powers the area.

The power was restored just before seven this morning.
