Louisville Police Officer And Suspect Hit By Car, Suspect Dies

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Louisville police are investigating the death of a man who was hit by a car while in police custody.

Adrian Reed, 23, of Louisville died at University Hospital, of blunt force injury, at 1:32 a.m. EDT, Wednesday, deputy coroner R.D. Jones said.

Two officers were also struck as they were handcuffing Reed last night, police spokeswoman Alicia Smiley said.

Officer Paul Humphrey was treated and released from the same hospital. Officer Malcolm Miller was not treated.

The officers were in the area in response to a report of gunfire at about 9:45 p.m. and saw Reed and two other men acting suspiciously, Smiley said.

The three ran, but the officers caught Reed and were trying to restrain him when they were hit by the car, Smiley said. The driver was not charged.

The other two men were eventually captured and charged with trespassing and drug charges, Smiley said.
