Jury Sentences Clay County Man To Life In Prison

BOWLING GREEN, KY -- A Warren Circuit Court jury has sentenced to life in prison for 25 years without parole a Clay County man charged with killing two people.

The jury returned a verdict of guilty on the two counts of murder about six hours earlier Satuday before the penalty phase began. The sentence was decided about 8:45 last night central time. Final sentencing is scheduled for November 2 at 10 a.m.

The Bowling Green jury reached the unanimous verdict at 2:44 p.m. Central time in the trial of John Wayne Collins. Collins was accused of killing his first cousin, Steve Collins, in October of 2004 in the Roots Branch community of Clay County.

Collins was charged with Christa Gayle Wilson's death nearly a year later. Investigators say the two cases are connected.

Collins' trial was moved out of Clay County before Special Judge Tom Lewis. Collins could face the death penalty.
