One Dead In Early Morning Warehouse Fire

Video will be available shortly

LEXINGTON, KY -- An as yet unidentified person was found dead following a major fire early Sunday inside a two-story downtown Lexington warehouse.

The body was found in a search of the building following the spectacular blaze. Some 50 firefighters fought the flames for two hours. Fire officials say some 20 companies, with seven engines and three ladder trucks responded to the blaze.

The building is located on South Broadway at the intersections of Bolivar and De Roode streets. The deceased person was found on the second floor. Fayette County Coroner Gary Ginn is investigating the death and the identity of the victim.

It is believed the building is a former hay and grain warehouse. Most recently the building housed a used furniture business.

The fire was reported shortly after 1 a.m. Reportedly, the intensity of the heat and flames forced firefighters back when they first responded and tried to enter the building.

Fire officials said the fire was concentrated in the roof and second floor. The building was heavily damaged. The cause is still under investigation.
