U.S. 27 Back Open After Serious Crash

Video will be available shortly

U.S. 27 is back open after a serious crash closed the road for several hours.

Police, firefighters, emergency crews and a helicopter responded to the scene of a serious accident at the Short Shun Pike intersection in Nicholasville.

Police think one vehicle going north on 27, tried to make a left turn onto Short Shun, and collided with a south-bound vehicle. Both vehicles then went into the ditch.

One person was thrown from a car, and was airlifted to the hospital. Police say he has a head injury, but his condition isn't known.

Four others went to the hospital in ambulances. The extent of their injuries isn't known.

Police shut down U.S. 27 between Edgewood and South Junction, and had to re-route traffic. However, the road re-opened just before five this morning.
