FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - A private developer has received a lease from the state to build a 267-room luxury hotel at Kentucky Horse Park.
Governor Fletcher announced today that a deal has been struck with Lexington-based Bluegrass Equine & Tourism Foundation Incorporated. The foundation will lease land for the hotel and distribute all profits from the endeavor to the horse and tourism industries in the state.
It would be the first time a private developer has built a luxury hotel on public land in Kentucky.
An economic impact study done for the Kentucky Commerce Cabinet found that the proposed resort hotel could create 827 full-time jobs. Construction of the hotel and conference center should be completed in time for the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games, which will be held at the Kentucky Horse Park.
