FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - The state will install 16 weather sirens throughout four eastern Kentucky counties that lay below troubled Wolf Creek Dam, Gov. Ernie Fletcher said Friday.

The sirens will be placed in Cumberland, Clinton, Monroe and Russell counties to notify residents in case of a dam failure. The structure, which holds back Lake Cumberland is undergoing repairs by the Army Corps of Engineers.

The sirens are designed to be audible from up to four miles away. The devices will also be used during times of severe weather and other emergencies.
