Governor Lifts Statewide Burn Ban

FRANKFORT -- Governor Ernie Fletcher has lifted a statewide burning ban in light of recent rain showers that have decreased wildfire risks, reports the Lexington Herald-Leader in its Saturday edition.

The governor issued the ban on all outdoor burning Oct. 4. The burn ban came in light of a continued drought and one of the most active forest fire seasons in years.

The newspaper reports that although Fletcher has lifted the statewide ban, other burning regulations remain.

It is illegal to burn within 150 feet of a woodland or brush land from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily during fire hazard seasons. And before the statewide ban, 35 counties had implemented local burning bans, according to the newspaper.
